NMHU Geology
Luke Romero is a graduate student at New Mexico Highlands University working towards an M.S. in geology with a focus in paleomagnetism. While attending his first IRES internship in 2019, a project investigating the emplacement history of Vinařická hora, a Cenozoic age volcanic complex, would become the focus of his graduate thesis. His investigation of this complex located in the Bohemian Massif in Central Czech aims to further the understanding of the eruptive evolution of the complex through rock magnetic and paleomagnetic experiments. Fieldwork on his project continued in the Czech Republic in 2022 while acting as mentor to Chris Ulibarri and field assistant to Mike Petronis. Durning his third IRES internship in 2024 Romero again served as a field assistant to Mike Petronis and mentor to Madison Allcorn and Darian Duran. Romero plans to complete his degree in Fall of 2024.
